Our Story
Our Story

A tale of alchemy

For 130 years, the House of Angostura®’s master blenders have crafted exceptional rums that bring people together. Savored sip by sip, or mixed into your favorite serves, our rums are made for that moment when already-great experiences become truly sublime.

Process and style

A time-honoured process

Angostura Premium Rums are the product of artistry and science – a process we like to call alchemy. Our rums are made from the finest molasses, fermented with proprietary yeast cultures, distilled in continuous stills, and aged in charred oak barrels.
The resulting ‘gold’ is blended by masters with years of experience and training, who continue to use traditional formulas and techniques passed down through generations.

A signature style

By controlling the rum-making process from molasses selection right through to bottling, we’ve not only secured our legacy, but helped to elevate rum’s reputation to stand equal with that of other spirits.

The result? A signature style, and a range of beautifully versatile rums all ready for you and your friends to sip, mix, and enjoy together.

All female blending team

Research published in science journal PLOS One in 2014 revealed that women have 43% more cells in their olfactory bulbs than men, giving them an innately heightened sense of smell.

As our blending team consists entirely of women, we apply this sensitivity to evaluating and selecting our rums.

Ariana Maharaj, our new product development manager, Narissa Joseph, our blending manager, and Ann-Marie O’Brien, our blending and quality control manager, all bring their unique skills and passion to a meticulous and satisfying process.

Our rich Heritage

Angostura®’s Premium Rums will always be a tribute to the Caribbean rum industry and the people and communities who’ve nurtured its growth.

Among the most influential of these was the Fernandes family, whose son Joseph Bento Fernandes – JB to his friends – revolutionized production locally.

The grandson of Portuguese emigrants, JB found investment to expand rum making at his father’s firm, and went on to set new standards in consistency and marketing.

This commitment to quality transformed Trinidad’s rum into an international sensation; it’s thanks to pioneers like JB that the islands’ small rum shops have evolved into the iconic distilleries we proudly call home today.
