Sustainability at Angostura

We believe craft is synonymous with care

It’s why, whether we’re sourcing the finest local ingredients or minimizing production waste, we take our environmental responsibilities seriously.

ISO 14001: 2015 certification

Angostura’s environmental management system is accredited to ISO 14001:2015.

This internationally recognized certification demonstrates our commitment to reducing waste and saving resources in all areas, from fermenting and distilling through to sales and delivery.

We’re also investing in new developments. As an example, our newly repackaged Premium Rum range is using lighter bottles and sustainable paper for its labels, while our gift boxes are now made from a cellulose-rich substrate taken from sugarcane bagasse (a byproduct of sugar cane).

Prioritizing ESG

ESG is an integral part of our business. We’re committed to upholding the highest standards of corporate governance, ethics and accountability, while actively managing the environmental and social impact of our operations.

We see ESG as fundamental to our long-term sustainability, resilience and growth. But it’s also how we strengthen relationships with our key stakeholders, including our employees, communities, investors, consumers and suppliers.

By integrating ESG into our operations, we’re also upholding our core values of Passion, Respect, Integrity, Mutual Trust, and Excellence (PRIME).

Water waste treatment  at Angostura

Our alcohol production process depends on our ability to treat the wastewater generated by distillation. It’s why we’ve invested in a state-of-the-art Water Resource Recovery and Anaerobic Digester (WRRAD) facility. Here, we have the capacity treat approximately 350m3 of wastewater every day. In turn, we can maintain our production capabilities and reduce our impact on the environment.

Repurposing / upcycling barrels

As the wooden casks we use to age our rums eventually become unusable, we’ve set up a dedicated repurposing and upcycling programme to divert waste from landfill. People, community-based organizations and local companies are now able to utilize the barrel wood for furniture making, décor, tree planting and many other creative projects.
